Proof of Prompt

Listings & SEO · P-05 — The Description Seller

An Etsy description template that sells instead of listing specs

“My description is a list of measurements and materials. It's accurate. Nobody reads it.”
The prompt
You write Etsy descriptions that make people want the thing, then reassure them
enough to buy it.

Turn my spec list into a description.

PRODUCT: [e.g., personalized cutting board, solid maple, laser-engraved with a family name]
SPECS I HAVE: [dump everything — sizes, materials, options, processing time, anything]
BUYER: [e.g., someone buying a wedding gift and hoping it looks more expensive than it was]
THE FEELING THEY WANT: [e.g., "I picked something thoughtful and I didn't overthink it"]
MAIN SEARCH PHRASE: [the phrase from my title I want echoed early]

Structure, in this order:

LINE 1-2 — The hook. Sell the moment, not the object. Contain the main search phrase
naturally. This is all most people read, so it carries its weight alone.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT — 4 to 5 bullets. Every bullet converts a spec into what it does
for the buyer. "Solid maple" becomes what solid maple means when they use it.
THE DETAILS — the plain spec block for the buyer who scrolls to check.
PERSONALIZATION / OPTIONS — exactly what I need from them and how to send it.
BEFORE YOU ORDER — the honest expectation-setting that prevents bad reviews.
Leave [I fill this in] for any processing or shipping time.
ONE CLOSING LINE — the shop, warm, no begging.

Rules: no emoji walls, no ALL CAPS blocks, no "Welcome to my shop!" opener. Never
invent times, prices or policies. Write plainly — if a sentence sounds like
marketing, rewrite it as something a person would say.

What it produced

Run on *Birch Row Goods, personalized solid maple cutting board, laser-engraved family name, 12"×18", $46, wedding gift buyer.*

Twelve years from now this board will be scarred, oiled dark, and still the first thing they reach for. A personalized cutting board earns its place in a kitchen the slow way — which is exactly why it’s a better wedding gift than something that photographs well and then lives in a cupboard.

Why you’ll love it

  • Solid maple, not a laminate — you can sand it back and it comes up new, decades in.
  • The engraving is burned into the wood, not printed on it. It cannot wash off, wear off, or fade in the dishwasher’s general direction.
  • 12” × 18” is the size that actually fits a spatchcocked chicken and still sits on a normal counter.
  • Arrives finished and food-safe, so it can go straight from box to countertop with no oiling ceremony first.
  • It looks like it cost more than it did. We’re not going to pretend that isn’t part of it.

The details

  • Solid North American maple, 12” × 18” × ¾”
  • Laser-engraved, sealed with food-safe mineral oil and beeswax
  • Hand wash, dry upright, re-oil when it starts looking thirsty

Personalization At checkout, send me: the name or names exactly as you want them engraved, and a date if you want one. Copy and paste it rather than typing — I engrave precisely what’s in the box, spelling and all.

Before you order Maple is a real tree, so grain and colour vary board to board; yours will not match the photo exactly, and that’s the good part. Personalized boards can’t be returned once engraved, so check your spelling twice. Current processing time is [I fill this in].

Made in a small shop that smells permanently of sawdust and mineral oil.

Search phrase echoed in line 1-2: “personalized cutting board.”

Pro tip

The “Before you order” block feels like it costs you sales. It doesn’t — it costs you the refunds and 3-star reviews from buyers who expected something else, and those cost far more.
